V, Charlie, Smallville and a poll about vampires.  
Had a few drinks last night, went home, and watched "V", which was (mood spoiler alert) the absolute worst. Just terrible. Awful in every way. Not even a little bit promising. A piece of epic television fail.

It's reading week this week and I haven't done any (of the) reading (I should be doing).

My cat has become a very affectionate adult. He was a bit of a snooty loner when he was going through adolescence but now he likes to sit on my lap even when I'm in bed. Early this morning he climbed on top of me, sat with his front paws on my chest and stared at me, I believe in an attempt to make me get up and feed him.

I love Zac Efron  
What is it about him?!

I nearly died of happiness when he turned up way too briefly on Entourage from two weeks ago (which I watched last night). It's not his looks I love so much as his vibe. He has wonderful timing, he's totally at ease with being good looking but he doesn't take himself too seriously, and he has incredible presence. He just makes me feel good in the way that a real, pure movie star should. In a way that no one else in Entourage makes me feel, but that's neither here nor there (it's easy tv and I enjoy it but it's pretty obnoxiously bad a lot of the time, and Kevin Dillon is truly not as funny as he or the show seems to think he is).

I know I'm not alone but I also know that a lot of you find Zac totally ick (I used to be one of you! Then 17 Again happened to me and I'll never not love him again).

TV chatter, plus pictures of hot dudes and a poll.  
"Party Down" got renewed for a second season!!!!! *AIR PUNCH*

Not sure if Jane Lynch will still be in it (woe), because she is also now in the completely awesome new show, "Glee", which you MUST WATCH. The pilot was really promising; it's kind of like a High School Musical for adults, except that it doesn't suck and instead of original shitty music, it's got decent, well performed arrangements of contemporary pop music. With quirky, interesting, lovably pathetic characters, tons of humour and a feel good vibe, if you're not grinning like an idiot by the end of the first episode you are a freak.

I feel like the only person in fandom who hasn't seen Star Trek. You've all gone Star Trek mad. So I guess I should see it then even though I hate Quinto. (Maybe I don't hate Quinto actually. Maybe it's just Sylar I hate.)

What's in a kiss?  
[info]fanficcionista asked me for my top five favourite kisses in any fandom (and 5 unsexy/disgusting/boring kisses in any fandom LOL), and because there is nothing better in the world than a great screen kiss I am going to dedicate an entire post to this question. I've kept my focus on TV fandoms to save my sanity, and I do apologise that these are all heterosexual kisses -- there's a lot of memorable sex scenes in The L Word, but no one kiss stands out from the rest (also, that show is dead to me); same goes for QAF.

A while back I was hanging out with my friend Philip and he asked me what my top five TV shows ever are, and this was my instantaneous answer:

How lame is it that Friends is on there? I don't care! It is a great show. So then I thought it would be fairer if I separated my answer into two categories: Shows That Have Finished, and Shows That Are Still Going, in which case it would go like this:

Buffy, The Wire, Friends, Sex and the City and Alias (I feel like there might be a show I love more than Alias but I'm drawing a blank right now and I actually do love Alias a whole lot so I'm happy for it to be on the list).

I started my Alias marathon again a few weeks ago and I’m nearly at the end of season 5 now, but what I do not understand is why on earth I hated season 4 so much the first time? Because I remember being totally heartbroken over it and ranting a lot about how awful it was, and it is actually not that bad. Perhaps going in with low expectations is the key.

Film hell, Charlie's ear, The X Factor and a poll about LJ friends.  
The weekend was weird. On Saturday the girls and I went to a couple of films at the film festival, the first of which was lovely ("Cover Girl" with Gene Kelly and Rita Hayworth), the second of which was the single worst film experience I've maybe ever had (and I've seen "Salo"). Then I got home to discover something wrong with Charlie's ear. He had the first of his leukemia shots on Friday so I wonder if it's reaction to that, but he now seems to have an ear infection if the internet is to be believed. He keeps scratching his ear and shaking his head, and it's lying a bit flat. ARGH. (I actually wrote this bit yesterday and thankfully Charlie seems fine today, so I guess it must have been a side effect of the shot. Which is a relief because he's bleeding me dry right now. I can't remember the last time I was this broke.)

The Wire vs Buffy the Vampire Slayer  
So we started watching "The Wire" as a flat recently and we're now six episodes in, but the girls aren't really getting into it. And this bothers me! I don't want to force them to watch something they're not enjoying but I also think they should at least finish season one. If you are a fan of this show can you remember at what point you became hooked? I'm pretty sure it happened for me quite early on, in that I remember watching Season 1 in a relatively short space of time, and being at first impressed with the quality of the writing and acting, and then in awe of everything else about it. I watched it on my own, which probably helped, because it requires intense concentration, and when you're on your own you're not so concerned whether what you're watching is fun for other people.

Mostly I'm scared they will get to the end of the season and go, "Nah." I think that would both embarrass and depress me.

The other show Kirsty and I have started to watch is Buffy (I didn't think Suz was that interested so we started without her, but apparently she is not happy about this and is planning on catching up, whoo!). We've seen all but one of the first season, and Kirsty is really enjoying it, even rubbish episodes like 'The Pack' (she loved Bad!Xander) and 'I Robot, You Jane', which is hilariously dated, but also fascinatingly Of Its Time (ZOMG THE SCARY INTERNETS AND THE CRAZY FANATICS WHO HANG OUT THERE. THEY WILL KILL US AAAALLLLLL!!!).

The best thing to happen so far is Kirsty having absolutely no idea that Angel is a vampire. This is how unspoiled she is! I can't even imagine what it would be like to not know that Angel is a vampire. But it's like, it's really hard not to start squawking about stuff that's coming up, even though I'm normally very respectful when it comes to not spoiling people, because BUFFY. This is the show that got me into television. This is the show, like no other, that I was *obsessed* with, for *years*. It was all I could think about, all I wanted to talk about, it is the show that caused me to stumble upon my first piece of fan fiction, and to discover that fanfic was really good for porn (I'm thinking that back then I was reading only really bad fanfic because I did eventually get sick of it). And there is SO MUCH GOOD STUFF coming up. SO much. I haven't watched the show for years so it's really exciting getting back into it, and with someone who is almost completely virginal (she's only seen the musical episode and on the strength of that is already asking where the "blond vampire" is).

My favourite season of Buffy is six, and you can quote me on that. It's a great season of television: dark, brilliant, erotic, tragic, and I don't care what anyone says to the contrary, they are wrong. What's your favourite season of Buffy?

I need help.  
I've pretty much decided that when I get my cat I will name him after a fictional character that I love, and in general my friends agree that this is a good idea. It's also something that happens commonly in fandom, yes? Well, whatever. I never said I was original.

So last night at my super fun dinner party we discussed possible cat names. Kirsty has been pushing for Tim, Riggins, Taylor or Kitsch. I have vetoed this, but am considering Coach, which I think is hilarious. Hilary says that Coach would only work on a fat, grumpy tom cat, but that is hopefully what my kitten will turn into, so.

My first choice is still Clark, which Hilary and Suz like, but which Kirsty is not keen on. She would rather I call the cat Mr Bob Dobalina, and actually I am seriously considering that just for the lolz. Other names discussed were Bruce Wayne (haha. MY POOR CAT IS TOTALLY GOING TO GET TEASED AT SCHOOL.) or Jack (named after Jack from Lost in case you were wondering, although theoretically he could also be named after Jack from 30 Rock or Jack from Alias).

Obviously I would like to hear your suggestions, dear flist, and I'm thinking the best way to kick off this very important discussion is with a poll. FYI, I am planning on getting a male cat but it's very possible I will fall in love with a female cat so feel free to suggest good girl names as well.

Lost, an impossible poll and the movie "Waitress"  
Yes, me and the girls spent the last three nights watching Lost, but now we are done with it. WOOO. I sense that there might be some arguments about how we handle season 5, because my thinking is that I will have to watch it with America once a week so I can talk about it here and, you know, be relevant. But that plan didn't seem to go down very well with Kirsty, who looked really annoyed at the suggestion, because she prefers watching it all at once. (Who doesn't! Obviously that is the best way to watch TV, but some of us do not have the patience to wait another year to find out what happens next.) Pah, it's not like she's the boss of me or anything, but I am kind of worried about what she might do to me if I watch it without her because she is a Lost fangirl (she was delighted about this when I told her), and we all know how crazy and violent fangirls can get.

I want McAvoy.  
Yesterday I went to see "Wanted" with [info]blythely, [info]circe_tigana and Hilary. It was so atrocious that Hilary and I couldn't stop giggling all the way through the second half (Hilary especially couldn't get over the "Loom of Fate"), but I must say I thoroughly enjoyed it. Mostly because Angelina Jolie is a fox (haha, see what I did there?) and James McAvoy is in almost every frame, and I couldn't love him more if I tried. He is very attractive. And also, a super good actor who makes daft dialogue sound super cool. GUH. I love him so much. Blythe and Circe were mostly unimpressed I believe but agreed that the highlight of the film was James sans shirt. YES.

a more boring post than yesterday.  
I love Jennifer Hudson's new single "Spotlight" and love that she doesn't just shout her way through it because she is better than that.

One thing I am watching right now is season 1 of The West Wing. See, at first I hated how fantastical it was and how it was so like, NOTHING TO DO WITH REALITY, but now that actually may be my favourite thing about it because I get so swept up in it whenever the music tells me to get swept up. It seriously makes me cry once an episode, and maybe that's because I am emo right now or MAYBE it is because it is actually quite well done! We shall never know.

Allison Janney is awesome and I love her. Also, it is nice to see Bradley Whitford play a character I don't want to kick in the nuts. (Aaron Sorkin is still a dickwad though, but I concede that he is a dickwad with a modicum of talent.)

WEEDS. Welcome back, Nancy and my beloved Andy etc, you are as hot and awesome and funny as ever. <3 <3 <3 I really enjoyed this episode (4.01) although I'm weirded out by my rather disturbingly strong attraction to Nancy's new boss, drug kingpin and arsonist extraordinaire, Guillermo. MROWR. He's so naughty and he exudes a lot of sexual magnetism and I just really want Nancy to jump him a whole lot.

I am going to see Peaches tonight. No, not Peaches Geldof which a lot of people over here thought I meant when I told them (and I was all, HOW DARE YOU. OH HOW I LAUGHED.  
A weird and delightful thing happened to me last night. I was lounging on the couch watching random season one 30 Rock episodes, as you do, and I got to the episode "The Rural Juror" and -- and you're not going to believe this -- I realised within a minute or two that-

HAHAHA. OMG.

I realised that I had ~*~AHEM~*~ never seen it before.

LOLZ.

So I think what must have happened is this: when I was first watching the dvds in order I got confused and skipped it because The Rural Juror is something that had been mentioned in a couple of other episodes so I guess I thought I'd already seen it! I am awesome. Just when I thought I had no new episodes of my favourite show to watch, BAM! I totally did and it was brilliant.

I am now going to tell you all about the results of yesterday's poll, because it is interesting:

45.1% of us feel disappointed when someone we like and respect is mean about something we love.
25.4% feel annoyed! (Hilariously I have almost certainly dissed something you love in this very journal, because I hate most of the things fandom thinks are great. To those of you that like and respect me, SORRY ABOUT THAT. /not really)
14.1% are amused, clearly because they know they have superior taste and that everyone else is just being silly.
12.7%, quite sensibly, don't give a rat's ass what their friends think.

YAY TINA FEY. She cleaned up in the hottest lady category with 40.3% of the vote. Lena Heady was next with 33.9%, and I guess I can understand that because I watched the pilot of the Sarah Whatsit Chronicles the other day (it sucks) and thought she was quite foxy. Jennifer Beals is better though, so I don't understand why she got fewer votes. Whatever. Only 4.8% of you like Ellen Page best, probably the chan fans on my flist? /kidding

Thank God you people understand that Singin' in the Rain is the best musical! But I really can't forgive you for voting Grease and Sound of Music as better than West Side Story. Just no.

63.2% of us prefer savoury food, and not that many people on my flist read porn anymore, including myself. Those that did rec me stories, thank you! I will be avoiding all SPN and SGA recs but the rest I shall look at.

We agree with gay men everywhere and find Jake Gyllenhaal the hottest dude.

Best of all, most people on my flist ship Bruce and Dick! LOL ILU ALL. A staggering 47.8% of you think Dick brings out the best in Bruce when it comes to sexin. 26.9% believe he is the very best (I am totally on board with you), 7.5% think he is inexperienced but a natural, and 17.9% of you are big spoilsports who think he's Not Good (you lot are all fired).

Ah, I'm so proud right now! Lex CLEANED UP in the most difficult portion of the poll with an impressive 40% of the votes. Next came the delicious Tony Stark (well played, flist. RDJ is hotter than fire) and then -- with far fewer votes than expected -- came Dean Winchester with only 12.9% (stop calling girls bitches, Dean! This is the price you pay). My lovely Dick Grayson came next, with 10%, and then Seeley Booth with 7.1%. No one likes Lee the most, but I don't think he should take that personally - he was up against some stiff competition. OOH ER!

I am also very pleased with how the girls did. Six and Lois tied for first place, each with 21.2% of the vote. YAY. They were my two first choices and they both deserve it. Lisa Cuddy is the next most favourite - naturally. Rose came last, but at least she got one vote right?

One of my professors didn't bother getting me a christmas present or a card or even a "have a good holiday" email, and this hasn't gone down well with me. I think he is an unappreciative dickwad and I feel like not doing anything for him ever again, and also, we're getting a few new people in the office soon and my plan is to fire him and let someone else proofread his stupid boring papers (and when they suck at it he can come grovelling to me and I will go, "if you want me to do it you will have to pay me, HA!"). Then this morning I got into work and there's a big log of chocolate covered marzipan (no one likes marzipan! WTF) on my desk with a post-it on it from him. It's January 14th.

I'm in the mood to read some hot porn but I can't find any, and I'm not in the mood to read a ton of badfic in search of the hot porn, which means I'm screwed. Farewell Michael Scofield! Farewell alcoholism!  
It looks like I’ve officially given up watching "Prison Break". I’ve been watching it on Monday nights here (we’re only a week behind the US) but last night I was tired and wanted an early night and didn’t even care that I was missing it. To celebrate I took it off the list of shows I watch in my bio. (Someone please let me know if Mahone and Michael become BFFs so I can start watching again.)

I haven't been drinking all month, due to an annoying stomach virus, and now I've decided that it's time to change my ways more permanently and stop being such a lush. Why? Because I have money! I *never* have money! I really had no idea how much I was pissing away each month.

Understandably I have replaced my booze addiction with a shopping addiction. This month I have bought the following:

- a large pink suitcase
- a small red suitcase
- various clothes and jewellery
- a new handbag
- a bunch of comic books

Speaking of which, "A Death In The Family" arrived from Amazon today, only Matty bought it for me on the weekend so now I have two copies. Would anyone like it? Free to a good home!

Prison Break starts tonight! I wasn't looking forward to it until I saw the giant billboard opposite my tube station, and it's of Michael and Mahone (and two others; can't recall who. Didn't care!) looking sexy in the new prison. THEY ARE ON THE SAME SIDE. I may be keeping my expectations as low as possible when it comes to PB these days, because I really did get sick of it last season, but it's nice to discover that the prospect of lots of scenes with Michael and Mahone flirting with each other working together still makes me all hot and wobbly. Now, do I download the torrent or watch it on Sky next Monday?

Is it possible to be in love with a comic book character?  
I get giddy when I think about Bruce Wayne. I had no idea how hot he was before I read comics (and porn, obvs) but now I'm pretty sure he's the sexiest character of all time.

Did Rachel and Joey liking each other on Friends make you hate them both a little bit? Y/Y? She was always my favourite but I saw that episode last night where they made out a lot in the hotel room and it reminded me how much I was forced to hate them both for a short while (before the producers realised how royally they'd fucked up by going down that route).

If comment numbers are anything to go by, you, dear flist, prefer to bitch than to squee. DOUBLE the amount of comments on the “Movies I Hate” post than on the “Movies I Love” post, and don’t forget, LJ was down for 7 hours or so on the Hate day, otherwise I'm sure even more people would have commented.

Another thing I want to talk about is responding to comments. Not everyone is good at it, and there are many reasons why: not enough time; nothing to say; you read it and plan to respond later then you forget (that's always my excuse); other reasons I can't think of right now.

If I'm friends with someone and they don't respond to my comment I don't generally mind, unless it was really long and I felt that it deserved a response, or if they repeatedly ignore me. And I'd actually rather icon makers *not* respond to my comment, because it's not like I'm saying anything, I'm just telling them I'm taking one of their icons and thanks. So a response is always just, "Enjoy!" or whatever, which is boring and unnecessary. I'll probably forget if an author doesn't respond to my feedback (unless, again, it's really long), but if I notice that the author never responds to any feedback, I'll probably not bother leaving any because they do come across to me as if they don't appreciate it that much (which they might! But they're certainly not giving that impression to the general public).

But okay, so can anyone relate when I say that if I leave a comment on a post (that's not fic or icons) in a stranger's journal and they don't respond, I (might) feel some combination of the following:

1. They don't like my comment
2. They don't agree with my comment but don't wish to argue with me
3. They think I'm stupid
4. They dislike me

It's more likely that I'll think one of those things than that I'll think the person is rude, or busy or forgetful. Which I know is absurd but there it is.

Am I all alone?
