Look, I know Grant Morrison smokes crack for breakfast but seriously, what the hell is going on in Batman right now? If anyone understands the last issue please explain it to me. (Tony Daniel draws the best Bruce. Y/Y/MFY? Dick's hair is a little too long and eighties for my liking though.)

DC people. What is the deal with showers/bathrooms in the batcave? In fic, I'm sure I've read that it's not uncommon for Bruce and Dick (for instance) to shower together, so is there, like, a locker room in the cave or something? Scans of them showering naked and soapy together would be appreciated, obvs.

I finished season 3 of Alias and I'm scared to start watching season 4 because I really hated it. Do you think it will be better the second time around? Anyway, I found I liked Melissa George a lot more the second time, despite her terrible English accent --

Aside: this is one of my biggest pet peeves EVER in film/television. My ears are very sensitive to bad accents, and I can usually tell within a single line of dialogue if someone is not actually the nationality they're playing (unless their accent is flawless, but there are very few actors you can say that about). I always end up thinking: couldn't they have found a [insert nationality here] actor to play this part? In some cases the actor is clearly irreplaceable -- and I'll give a pass when it's a big star because I appreciate the value a big star can bring to a project -- but generally they are not. I feel similarly (albeit angrier) about women being cast as (m-f) transexuals, btw.

-- I remembered her acting as being really hammy but it wasn't that bad.

Thanks to my flatmate Kirsty, who is a huge fan, I am catching up on Lost! We watched a ridiculous number of season 3 episodes over the weekend and this is definitely the way to do it. I ran out of patience with it when I had to watch one a week but mainlining it is working out nicely. I totally forgot how attractive I find Jack. HE IS VERY HOT. And the love triangle with him and Kate and Sawyer is awesome, because she has such great chemistry with both of them; I cannot decide who I want her to be with. I'm thinking both at the same time please?

Buffy fans! I read this neat little story in the Holy Moly newsletter about the awesomeness that is Anthony Head (and his partner) today (ignore the bit in the intro that insults Buffy fans. Coz you guys aren't like that):

Last week I asked you intrepid moles to investigate a story about Anthony Head's allegedly hidden and withered hand. You answered in your hundreds (note to self - never question the digits of an actor who is adored by freaky geeky Buffy fans - b.o.r.i.n.g. with a capital twats). The evidence was put forward, you the jury decided that after minutes of Google imaging and wild speculation that, as he plays the guitar, it is unlikely that said hand is completely 'Beadled', however this picture seems to suggest that his fingers are of 'odd length'.

A mole writes:

"It's completely true, although it's not damaged in the sense of being hideously disfigured, he is self-conscious about it enough to keep it hidden as much as possible. I knew this a long time ago and as a result, when I met him at an awards bash in 2005, I offered him my left hand to shake, he said, 'How charming,' and we spent the next hour or so chatting away, during which his right hand remained under the table. At one point I offered to fetch him and his lovely partner (unmarried after more than 20 years together; they don't see the need) more champagne only to be told that it had run out. On reporting this to Anthony he coolly said, 'Hmm, let me try,' went to the same bar, said firmly to the help, 'My friends - and I - would like more champagne,' and more fizz magically appeared. We all ended up completely shit-faced. During the evening he bit into a mini-burger and decided he didn't like it. His lady partner took the remaining half, wrapped it in a napkin and said, 'That can go on eBay...'"

MOLE INVESTIGATION RATING: 9/10

I also loved "Iron Man", quite liked "BSG", liked "30 Rock" (not my favourite ep tho), am really loving "Mad Men" (4 more episodes to go; will review properly when I'm done), LOVED "State of Play" (smart and superb. Also, after watching an episode the other day I then went and had a dream about James McAvoy and we were in love with each other and it was so cool it made me horny for the entire morning afterwards), LOVED "Flight of the Conchords" (IS THERE GONNA BE MORE?! I really hope so.).

Finally, that Usher song "Love in the Club" is so embarrassing.

1. I am going to see Grindhouse tonight with the boys. AWESOME.

2. I ate this fancy organic dark chocolate and chilli cookie before and my mouth went up in flames.

3. It's good to have BSG back, even though it is totally nutso. Did you all likey?

4. I read Infinite Crisis finally and was disappointed. It was kind of boring and messy and daft and not very moving at all when it should have been. I mean hi, if you're going to kill off a beloved character at least make it sad! I was left going, "was that it?" A Death In The Family wasn't all that good but at least when Jason died I cried my eyes out! I'm starting to think I'm not a fan of Geoff Johns unless someone can remind me of something decent of his that I've read. Oh, except that he seems to ship Bruce/Dick, which is nice. The sheer number of times he pointed out that Dick was Bruce's most beloved did please me immensely.

5. OTOH, All Star Superman #10 totally made me cry, because it is brilliant. OH CLARK. (Grant Morrison really *gets* the complexity that is Clark and I love him for it a lot.)

6. I watched "The Last Picture Show" last night. Holy crap Jeff Bridges was pretty when he was young.

I have been having dirty fantasies about Bruce and Dick again. Do you think I should write them down in story format? I feel a bit disconnected from fandom and fic writing at the moment and I feel like writing porn would be silly. EEP. I also have chronic insomnia and I'm all out of sleeping pills. I'm stressed out about everything and I don't know what to do about it. I need a second job. I need someone (preferably an attractive boy) to show an interest in me. I need some sleep.

Going comics shopping yesterday was cool though because I want to Gosh! and was downstairs trying to find the last three issues of All Star Superman (because it is the best comic ever) and they didn’t have it (boo!) but then I was heading back upstairs and someone called my name. I turn around and this guy I vaguely recognise is looking at me and his name is Tristan and I went to SCHOOL with him in NZ and now he works at gosh! and because of that I got a discount. WOOOOT.

After that I headed to Comicana even though it was raining and the guy there was really sweet and helpful and he made me buy #9 of All Star Supes even though I don’t have 7 and 8, because it’s the “best thing you're reading right now” and it stands alone. He also made me buy a trade of The Invisibles because it’s also Grant Morrison and it’s apparently essential that I read everything Grant Morrison has ever written. And then he asked me if I wanted to see his comics on myspace.

I owe you email, [info]literaryll! My apologies, I have been very lazy over the holiday period, as others may have noticed. But now that I am back at work I will no doubt post more often. Anything to get out of working right? RIGHT.

It took me a while to get into it, but I finally yesterday finished reading “Kingdom Come”. (What are people’s thoughts on Alex Ross’s art? Personally, I’m alternatively amazed and creeped out by it.) spoilers... )

~

I hardly wrote any fic last year. Twelve stories, compared to, like, twenty nine the year before. But I flatter myself to think that they are better quality (?). Plus, I wrote in a couple of different fandoms, which is very daring of me.

This year I would like to be more prolific, and I would like to write more DCU fic. It’s tough getting up the courage to write more in that fandom because I am such a canon whore and I still feel like I don’t know enough/anything. But I guess I will just keep on reading lots of comics (YAY!) and having lots of dirty Bat fantasies and it will happen when it happens. [I’m starting to think I have a Dick Grayson addiction, because I always miss him when he’s not there. Like in the last Gotham Underground! WHERE WAS MY DICKIE? I can’t even remember anything else about it, just that Dick was AWOL.]

Regarding SV fic, I am working on Bopster’s birthday present at the moment (HET PORN WHOO!), which I should finish today or tomorrow. And I have another Clex fic finished which I wrote for the Doujinshi competition and I will post that once the winner has been announced in a few weeks.

GIP. Look at my pretty new Clex icon that the very talented [info]serenography made. ♥

Stuff happening:

1. I am in the middle of my [info]undermistletoe story and very much enjoying myself. And seeing as I don't have much work to do today I think I will crack on with that and hopefully get them to have (more) sex, because they are both gagging for it.

2. ROBIN #169!! Shaz and I are going to go shopping at lunch (we're the only two here so plan to take an extra long lunch break) so I will grab it then. YAY. Also, I want a pair of cords.

3. I have decided to watch "The Wire" from the beginning again, and this time watch all the commentaries as well, because David Simon is a genius and the pilot commentary was fascinating. Did you know that they (almost) never use cued music? In other words, they don't try to manipulate the audience's emotions with music (this is very unusal) and instead they create an atmosphere by using music and sound that emanates from a source within the scene (according to wiki, this is called diegetic music), which is one of the reasons everything in the show feels so immediate and real. HOW COOL IS THAT.

4. I figure that by ignoring the flagging thing and the SUP thing, I won't be remotely affected by it. Although hey! All the people who hate 6A must be delighted by the sale! Right?

COMICS

Gotham Underground #2 )

~

I wathced the first two episodes of "Oz" last night.

GRIM.

But very entertaining for sure. I'm pleased that Dean Winters is in it because I adore him; a little later in the evening I watched "30 Rock" and he was in it, as Dennis, Liz's loser boyfriend, and god -- SO MUCH LOVE. He's one of those actors who is both incredibly sexy and totally shameless. He always plays characters who shouldn't be remotely likeable but always, always are, because he's so funny and cute.

~

What do you look for in a pairing? I know for me that I need to be able to see canonical evidence of a strong attraction; which only happens when the actors have great chemistry with each other but it also needs to be in the writing. [I love so much that Lex's obsession with Clark is regularly acknowledged on the show and is unwavering, even after seven years. Hell, he said himself that his obsession with Clark will never die. And despite Lex's dangerous love for Clark, Clark can't stay away from him. Now that, to me, is what great slash is made of.]

Is there a common theme in the pairings you like? I am defintiely attracted by forbidden love, opposite personalities, obsession/devotion, a power imbalance. Buffy/Spike, Clark/Lex and Bruce/Dick all have these things in common (they are my top three ever pairings).

Are you fussy? Do you fall for lots of pairings or does it hardly ever happen for you? Because I appear to be absurdly fussy. Most popular pairings in fandom leave me cold, or interest me only fleetingly. Just as in life, I guess. I can have a one night stand with a pairing and it can be fun, but in the morning I'll be all, ew, put some clothes on and get the fuck out of my house. [DC is the exception to this rule, however. All DC pairings seem to work beautifully, much to my delight.]

I have too many interests and not enough time. What with comics to read, fic to read, fic to write, television to watch and livejournal to hang out on, it's a wonder I get any sleep or ever see my friends. I still haven't even managed to see the latest Friday Night Lights yet! FAIL.

Comics

I finally got around to reading the Blue Beetles that Ashley sent me recently, and you will all be pleased to know that I am now hooked. Um, [info]jayest? The shop didn't have #18 and I hate to miss anything, so can I please borrow the last three issues off you? I will take good care of them I promise.

My favourite issue was the one with Guy Gardner in it, because he had me crying with laughter. I love it how in comics you can meet a character for the first time and within one panel you love them madly. I just wish I had a scanner so I could share the lolz.

And finally I got to read "Identity Crisis". God. Without a doubt, the most emotionally moving comic book I've read yet. It's so well written (and brilliantly drawn), that you instantly feel connected to every sinlge character. This book has serious heart. I actually still have puffy eyes today because I was reading it in bed last night, and the Father's Day chapter had me *bawling*. That is not an exaggeration. It broke me.

LOOK. )

I was going to talk about other things, like the finale of Dark Angel (lame and unsatisfying) and the first four episodes of Boston Legal S1 (AWESOME TIMES A MILLION. James Spader FTW), but I can't be fucked.

Hey, how would you all like to tell me whether you're enjoying Heroes or SPN this season? Do those shows still suck, or what?

The people over at [info]scans_daily have a tendency to harsh my buzz. Whenever I visit there they're always bitching about how much everything sucks. See, I really loved "Under The Hood", and I like Jason a whole lot (probably because he's ideal for porn), but they were all "Jason is rubbish, he should've stayed dead. Yadda yadda", and also, "Devin Grayson is terrible because she writes hurt/comfort without the comfort."

Miserable bastards.

I'm on my honeymoon with comics and haven't become very critical yet, so while yeah, I can appreciate that Devin was smoking a lot of crack when she wrote mobster!Dick, there's no denying that she loves him and understands how sexy it is when he's full of angst.

To celebrate, I made myself a new Dick icon. *BEAMS*

~

While I'm on the subject of comics, I think I missed [info]literaryll's birthday. Happy belated birthday, sweet girl! Can I write some porn for you? Lemme know.

~

I watched the most offensive reality tv programme last night. It's called something like "40 vs 20" and it's a dating show centering around this good looking 30 year old pro tennis player, who's lonely and looking for love. It opens with seven women, all between the ages of 39 and 48, all very beautiful, all very desperate, all hoping to make him fall in love with them (whether they like him is a non-issue, obviously). They each meet him for the first time and say, "Hi! It's so good to meet you. I was born and raised [blah] and I'm [insert age here]". The camera freezes on Tennis Guy's horrified expression. (He's only ever dated younger women.) Towards the end of episode one we hear how much he's learned: "They're such great women, I totally forgot about the age thing, maybe I could even *date* someone older than me. *epiphany!*"

But then things get a "whole lot more complicated" and they unveil the *real* competition. (See, the 40 somethings all thought they only had to compete with each *other* for their man-prize. But NO.) We are then introduced to seven girls, all in their twenties, who say things like, "Well, I know I'm hot" and "Them against us? They don't stand a chance" and "Women still hunting for a man at 40? How *pathetic*." Tennis Guy is delighted.

*cries*

Yes, I'll be tuning in next week.

I flipped out yesterday. I was moaning to [info]radioreverie about how I wasn't getting emailed any of my comments and she tells me that hotmail blocks LJ emails now.

WTF.

I'm not sure if this is LJ's fault or Hotmail's but I'm still not recovered from my rage and self pitying. I had to change my LJ email to my gmail account but I'm not at all happy about it. I don't like gmail. I find hotmail more aesthetically pleasing, and not confusing, and I've always used my hotmail account for fannish stuff and I like it and I hate having to change just because hotmail has decided to start sucking.

Do you think they're going to fix this problem so I can go back to using hotmail as my fannish email soon? Despite my anger I remain optimistic.

How good was the last "Friday Night Lights" you guys?

I bought comics today. I'm going to go home, have some soup, set myself up on the couch for the night and read Gotham Underground #1 and Robin #167, and then I'm going to finish reading Under The Hood (GodDAMN. Jason is such a hotass. *quivers*) and then if I have time I'm going to get started on Identity Crisis. And then I'll go to bed and dream about Batman (no really, I probably will).

I burnt the roof of my mouth yesterday. And what's worse is, I knew I was going to do it. Because I couldn't wait five freaking minutes for my delicious duck spring rolls to cool down. I said to them: "you are going to hurt me if I eat you now. *CHOMPS*". And now I am in terrible pain.

WRITING

Yes! I might not be posting much at the moment, but I AM writing, and it's going pretty good.

I have a question for my American friends. Would Clark leave a pan on the stove top? The cooker? The cook top? Or what? Help a kiwi out.

Bats

I think of Bruce as being about 6'4" but I was wondering if his height has ever been canonically confirmed. I'd also like to know how tall Dick and Tim are meant to be. Also, Tim's age at the moment. Is he eighteen yet?

I'm starting to think I can ship Dick with anyone, because he's that sexy. I mean, he even made out with CATWOMAN. And it was really hot. She was doing it to make Batman jealous of course, but *still*. Dick doesn't seem to care who he makes out with as long as they're attractive. *swoons*

It has recently come to my attention that Babs/Dinah = OTP.

Television

I've decided to give up on "Reaper". It's not that I dislike it because I really don't; I find the characters reasonably charming and it's amusing in places. It's just that...it's kind of boring. The formula doesn't really work that well and they're clearly intent on sticking to that formula, at the expense of any interesting season wide story arcs (which I need if I'm to get invested in a show). Further, I *hate* the way the main female character is used: purely as a love interest. Which I wouldn't have so much of a problem with if the romance was in *any way interesting or believable* but it ain't. It makes it very clear to me that the writing staff consists exclusively of fanboys who have never seen a woman naked.

~

I inhaled the first two seasons of "Entourage" on the weekend. How have I not been a fan of this show for years? It is AWESOME. Times a MILLION. I love everything about it and I'm outraged that season 3 hasn't been released on DVD here yet.

~

It took me a few years to recover from the season one finale, but I'm finally catching up on "Dark Angel" season 2. I probably just should have bought it back then because of course I'm loving it. Jessica Alba is the foxiest woman on the planet and I want to be her. I love Max and Logan and I even *gasp* love Alec (that's Jensen Ackles' character for those not in the know). Is there any Max/Alec porn out there? Or Logan/Alec? It's for a friend.

I love all of the Bat family. I am in love with all of them to the point where I can’t decide who I love the best. Dick is so sexy and lovely and funny and Tim is so brilliant and clever and witty, and Bruce is…Bruce is just Bruce and he owns me. And I love all the girls as well. I have now met Steph and she makes me want to cuddle her forever, and Babs is my hero and Cassie is adorable.

It used to be that Forbidden Planet scared me because I didn’t understand it and there was too much going on, so I would always go in with the intention of buying myself something neat but then leave empty handed feeling dejected and like a failure.

Now it’s my favourite shop in the whole world! I’m all “I’ll take THAT and THAT and THAT!” And when I walk out I feel like a winner.

I am such a fan of unlikely friendships/romances. Jennifer Anniston and Orlando Bloom? Awesome! Bradley Cooper and Cameron Diaz? FTW!

I'm in a terribly good mood today. I've taken tomorrow off work so I can sleep in, then lounge about watching "Smallville" and "Reaper" and reading more of [info]literaryll's truly awesome comics collection (more on this later) (ILU Ashley!). Also, Matty is coming back! He is my flatmate Nina's brother and he left a few days ago to stay with other people so he wouldn't be at our place for three weeks, but he's miserable there and he misses us so he's coming back on Saturday. And I couldn't be happier about it! Normally I'm the kind of person who wants guests to fuck off after the proverbial three days, but he's just so LOVELY and everything is better with him around; the atmosphere in the house is so warm and friendly and happyful and he likes to do the same kinds of things as me, i.e. watching tv in pajamas and talking about Batman.

I worked a six day week last week (unheard of!) so had yesterday off, and despite still being hungover from Saturday night (I think I poisoned myself), had a great day. I sat on my armchair under a duvet and watched Pretty in Pink and read comics. I’m now up to about #21 of Gotham Knights, and I’m not sure I can quite express myself properly, but I will try.

Dear Devin Grayson,

^:)^

Love from your slave forever,

[info]mskatej

Basically what this series is about is how Dick and Bruce love each other till the end of time. I cried a number of times yesterday over their epic romance because Devin is the best writer ever and has a brilliant understanding of how gay comics should be.

~

My workmate Alex bought this coffee from Selfridges called Civet Coffee. Apparently the coffee beans are eaten by weasels in Indonesia then picked out of their poo. She just told me this and I stared at her for a long time then asked, "... ... Why?"

She does not know.

~

Smallville/DC question:

So, Matty asked me the other day if Bruce Wayne had turned up in Smallville yet and I was like, "No, that will never happen."

But WHY? Is there a chance that they could bring Bruce into SV? And if not, why not? How come you never get Superman and Batman in the same movie? They never even mention each other in the movies, but in comics they're basically best pals. So what's the deal? How come they can bring in the Flash and Green Arrow but not Bruce? Are they afraid he will upstage Clark or is it a legal thing?

I have almost no expectations for season 7. It's not that I don't care (because I know I will once it starts again), it's that I know caring too much is fruitless; SV will never do exactly what I want it to do and it will never live up to its potential, but what it *will* do is deliver on the pretty and the sexy and the gay and the fun. And despite its flaws, it's still a show about two three of pop culture's most iconic characters. You can't say that about much else on telly.

Here is my deep and meaningful wish list:

ALL OF THIS SHOULD HAPPEN. )

~

My flatmate's brother is over from Australia at the moment and staying with us and he happens to be a comic book nut (we have a shopping date for a week on Saturday and he's going to advise me on what to buy. :-B) and then last night he's telling me about these fan-made Batman movies that you can watch on Youtube.

Do you guys know about these?! Because we watched five or six and some of them are pretty fucking good!

My favourite was Grayson, which is done like a film trailer and it's so cool you will want it to be made into an actual real movie. In it, Dick is older and has given up crimefighting and has a wife and children, but then Batman is killed, so Dick gets back into training and being a detective so he can find the killer. (The guy playing Dick is almost hot enough too; his body is NICE.) It's such a *great* idea for a movie, and really, there should be more movies about how sexy and wonderful Dick Grayson is. And then in the end (of the real movie that they should make) it can all be a dream or something, because Batman is not allowed to die.

I had NO IDEA people DID this. Like, that's fanboying taken to a whole other (lame but) awesome level! There are some really *really* tragic fan movies out there, but some of them are amazing!

I can also recommend Batman Legends (it's got Nightwing and Tim in it!) and Batman Dead End, where Bats fights Alien and Predator!

Y HALO THAR BB )

3. Gossip Girl

LOVED IT. Pure unadulterated entertainment. It's visually stunning, the cast is *exceptionally* hot, it's fun and daft and exciting and I am madly in love with Rufus already (he's the hot rockstar dad). Favourite pilot this year by far.

4. Last Tango In Paris

I've been meaning to see this for decades and it was on sale at HMV for £3 (which is cheaper than renting a movie) so I bought it. It is not very good.

Dearest [info]literaryll,

The first package arrived!

:-*

I read the Batman Detective comics last night, where Tim is dreaming about being allowed to be Robin and then his parents get kidnapped. I seriously did not see that ending coming at all. Poor Tim. Poor Bruce.

"I FAILED!"

*cries*

Anyway, I see now why Tim is so universally loved. He's a *clever* woobie. ♥

~

Does anyone ever find themselves watching that show "What About Brian" (the cast is pretty which always makes me think I'm going to enjoy it more than I ever do) and just *hating* everyone in it? Like, how is it possible for a show to be populated entirely with characters who are utter cunts? Who all love themselves waaaaaay too much? It's almost spooky.

CELEBRITY NEWS

- Owen Wilson never really struck me as the suicidal type. :( Let's just hope it was a cry for attention rather than a serious attempt, and that his next movie is a big hit.

- It wouldn't surprise me if Britney and Kev were child abusers. They have that Child Abusing look about them, if you know what I mean.

An ex booty call of mine emailed me today (in response to my birthday party invitation) saying that he no longer lives in London and is expecting a baby in four weeks.

WTF.

I can't remember if we flinged (flung?) last year or the year before. It feels like it was years ago, but when I think about it closely it seems more likely that it was only last year. I DO NOT KNOW. Either way, I feel like I need to get laid soon.

~

My colleague's shitheel of a husband has been cheating on her for about three years, and while she has suspected for a while, it was confirmed yesterday. The cunt has so little respect for her (despite her being the mother of his two small children) he isn't even sorry. He blames HER for his cheating. And her confidence is at such an all time low she would probably take him back if he wanted to. UGH. I would really like to kick him in the nuts right this second. I just hope she stops being upset soon and starts getting mad. Then I hope she takes him for every fucking penny he's got. She'll probably go back to Hong Kong, which means the kids won't see their dad very often but it sounds like he cares more about himself than he does about them anyway.

~

Fallout Boy sucks ass. So does My Chemical Romance. FYI.

~

[info]rivkat has written a long (7 parts!), plotty, extremely hot and sexy Clex story, called Useful Arts. I KNOW! She posted part 1 yesterday and part 2 today (which I am just about to read) and you should all go read it this instant.

Also, I read the most amazing Bruce/Dick AU yesterday: Hanging Work, by [info]cereta. Dick is found (living on the streets) and raised by Selina Kyle instead of Bruce, so when Dick and Bruce meet they're on opposite sides of the law. It has an amazing plot and is heartwrenchingly romantic (and super sexy, of course), and I highly recommend it to everyone, even if this isn't a pairing that would normally interest you.

If I loved Dick Grayson any harder I would probably pass out.

I was up till one in the morning because I had to finish “Hush”, which is now officially my favourite comic book so far. I AM SO TIRED TODAY BUT IT WAS WORTH IT.

I am going to cut my reactions, because you might want to skip them if you haven’t read the book and anyway, mostly it will be incoherent flailing, abuse of capslock, and me saying stuff like: I LOVE BRUCE AND DICK SO MUCH *cries* etc etc.

Hush )

Bruce really needs to get laid, and it’s not like there’s a shortage of willing suitors, so I’m not sure what his problem is: he could have anyone he wants! Including (and especially) Dick. Hell, he can have me.

If you could blow any comic book character who would you blow and why? I pick Bruce, because, well, I love him and he's sexy as fuck, but also, it would be an awesome feeling to distract him--even if only for a little while--from his mission. And to make him moan. I would even swallow for Bruce! /tmi

One thing I love about facebook is that friends of mine put up photos of me that I would never have otherwise seen. Here is one of me (on the right), Christiaan and Anna at the Coliseum a few years ago. :)

Today I went to the movies to see "Sherrybaby" except when I got to the cinema they told me it was only on at 2.30 on Thursdays and Fridays.

So I went shopping and bought cheap jewellery and a bag instead.

I'm learning all about comics at the moment, thanks to [info]literaryll and a few others who're educating me. [info]miss_tress kindly sent me a bunch (that I requested!) recently and I started with the Spiderman comics because so far I've only read DC stuff and also I really like the Spidey films and the sexy costume and his powers are choice, so I've been dying to try him out.

I like spiders. (It's my job to get rid of spiders in my house because Nina is phobic and I always catch them and release them into the wild. O:))

Anyway, I LOVE HIM. He's so funny. I love how when he's fighting bad guys he's having fun and he's constantly making witty remarks about how much they suck. There's a lightheartedness about him that's wonderfully cute and refreshing (and HOT). Both Spidey comics I've read so far have made me laugh out loud and I do plan to go to Forbidden Planet soon and buy something Batman related, but also I want some really good Spidey stuff. Recommendations are appreciated!

Now. Comics fandom seems to be mostly about DC, or am I just unobservant? Is there a Marvel fandom in the same way? With porn and slash and stuff? Or is comics fandom all just connected and most of you read both? Or do comics fans prefer one or the other generally? Is there antagonism between Marvel and DC fans? Wank? *hopeful* Someone talk me through it please. See, while I love the DC stuff I've read, I was *delighted* by the humour and lack of angst in the Spidey comics.

AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.

~

I think we can all agree that skinny jeans were the worst thing to happen to fashion in years. No one looked good in them. Not even skinny girls, because they still just made their legs look short. Ten foot tall models made them look awesome, but that's not a good enough reason for something to become cool. Everyone bought those fucking things; many of my friends, and sorry if you succumbed, but no. What a disaster for women and legs.

Now everywhere I look, girls are wearing leggings underneath skirts or dresses or tunics or whatever. I remember when I was about fourteen (which was over fifteen years ago btw) I loved my leggings but I didn't fucking know any fucking better, so you can forgive me. WHY THE HELL IS THIS HAPPENING AGAIN.

MY EYES MY EYES. )

I'm not really into fashion; I'm pretty stylish but I do tend to stick to things I know look good on me (also, comfort is v important to me), and every year I see horrendous crimes against fashion committed, all in the name of keeping up to date, with complete disregard for what actually flatters the figure.

I invite you all to complain about bad fashion/clothes which should never have become popular.

Hullo livejournal.

I have a small hangover today because I spent yesterday afternoon drinking and gossiping with [info]toadstoolsmiles. It was so good to see her! She had me laughing my ass off all day. ♥

I may or may not have a crush on Nightwing.

I have added "het" to my list of interests, because most of the pairings I like seem to be het and most of the pairings I hate seem to be slash. I mean, I do love certain slash pairings (Clex, Fraser/RayK, Harry/Draco [shutup], Michael/Mahone), but generally I find it's a hard sell with me, and it's definitely not my default setting.

If the gay subtext isn't there in the canon I don't seem to be inclined to invent it myself. I also enjoy some male relationships that don't happen to involve anal sex and blowjobs (I know. It's crazy!). Friends, brothers, fathers and sons etc etc... I have discovered that strictly heterosexual boys can charm me just as much as occasionally gay heterosexual boys.

That said, I'm finding Deadwood quite slashy. Anyone else? Seth and Al would have great sex. I might be attracted to relationships that begin with mutual loathing due to opposing values, but then progress towards grudging respect, all because they're so helplessly attracted to each other's charisma. Yes.

I don't read a lot of het though, because it's often...um...terrible? I just read one story right now that almost put me off ever having sex again. It starred this woman who couldn't get enough of sex but was really ashamed of herself for her desperation to be fucked, and the guy basically treated her like a woman shaped hole for his cock, yet also like it was this huge burden to fuck her because she was so pathetic. And it was really creepy and abusive and gross and I think it was supposed to be hot? I don't even know, but I may never recover.

I should write another story soon. I miss Clex, so maybe Clex.

Because Clex is the ultimate slash pairing! And I think it's because you'd have to be blind not to see it, they're both really really hot and porny, and, as Becky pointed out to me yesterday, they actually had to tone down the rampant homoerotica after the first few seasons, because it was TOO gay. HAHAHAHA. Smallville wins again.

GIP. As much as I love Superman, Batman giving the thumbs up in this icon is the funniest thing of all time. *continues to laugh*

Speaking of comics! The sweet, generous, amazing [info]literaryll is educating me, and it's going very well. I spent yesterday on the couch in a fragile state, watching Smallville (Fanatic and Lockdown. I have to say right: Lex has an incredibly nice ass. I tried to find a screencap of his ass just now but to no avail I'm afraid. No wonder Clark can't get enough of it.) and reading Batgirl, Year One.

BATGIRL ROCKS SO MUCH. I love her snarkiness and how she mocks Robin relentlessly and calls him Pixie Boots but how she also fancies him. ♥ I have also been introduced to the Teen Titans, which means that I can start reading porn by [info]thete1 again. TE PORN. Oh how I've missed thee.

~

I watched the first three episodes of "Deadwood". I am pretty much hooked I think because I was annoyed when I got to the end of the disc and had no more to watch. IAN MCSHANE. He's such a repellent character but my GOD. The guy has so much charisma.

I found all the swearing really strange at first; like, unrealistic? All the fucks and cocksukers and cunts etc...but actually, the script is so good that I'm okay with it now. You know me! I do love bad language.

I had the most annoying argument with my brother recently. We were talking about heroes and superheroes over email and he doesn't have a clue about the fannish side of my life and that I'm not completely ignorant about these things so he lectured me a lot, which wound me up. During the course of the argument, I brought up Batman and Supes and described them as superheroes, and my brother says this:

Batman isn't a superhero. He has no powers. He trains and works hard to get a physical edge (typically, I will admit the 60s Batman relied more on the money for the gadgets). Ultimately it means he has to outsmart his foes.

Which I argue with, because Batman fucking well is a superhero, right? And then he's all:

Batman often gets lumped into the category out of convenience as the genre he works in is predominantly about superheroes. (Of course, when he was first shown, the comics people knew had [sic] a lot more "normal" heroes, e.g. Dick Tracy).

So I go:

Dude, Batman is a superhero. Deal with it.

From wiki (bold mine): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superhero

A superhero is fictional character "of unprecedented physical prowess dedicated to acts of derring-do in the public interest," [1] Since the debut of the archetypal superhero, Superman, in 1938, stories of superheroes — ranging from brief episodic adventures to continuing years-long sagas — have dominated American comic books and crossed over into other media.

By most definitions, characters need not have actual superhuman powers to be deemed superheroes, although sometimes terms such as costumed crimefighters[2] are used to refer to those without such powers who have many other common traits of superheroes.

And then he responds with the most annoying thing ever:

Wikipedia is no source for anything opinionated. Surely you know that.

I haven't responded since that one, because it's rhetoric and is basically just his way of telling me I can never win. But the truth is, I'm now all doubty and am wondering if he is right about Batman. So help me out! (Comics people: if you know the truth about this, please explain in the comments. Thx.)

I'm in a happy mood today, and there are a couple of people responsible for that who I want to thank.

One of you is anonymous, but your gift and message completely made my day and whoever you are, I love you, and thank you so so much.

The other of you is the awesomely fantastic [info]literaryll! I picked up my presents from the post office this morning and I am *still* completely giddy with glee. Ashley darling, you are the BEST EVER.

FLIST, CHECK OUT MY PRESENTS:

The first thing I pulled out of the parcel was:
This Wonder Woman t-shirt )

Which fits perfectly and looks super cute on me. *BEAMS*

Then I pulled out:

Superman and Lex Luthor (in battle armor) MINIMATES )

*DIES* They are miniMATES and they are both frowning angrily but that's clearly just because Lex's battle armor makes it that much more tricky for Superman to feel him up. Ashley has them next to her tv, holding hands. LOLZ. I'M GOING TO MAKE MINE HOLD HANDS TOO.

I also got:

Harry Potter BERTIE BOTT'S BEANS )

*AIR PUNCH*

And finally, I got my VERY FIRST COMIC. I mean, I've read some comics on my computer, but this is my VERY FIRST ACTUAL COMIC. I now feel like a proper fangirl. It's the Superman All Star issue and it has Clark and Lex on the cover. Look at them:

OH CLEX. )

Good Lord. Is everyone else as turned on as I am right now?

See? Ashley wins at presents.
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

And then I was inspired to change my desktop wallpaper at work to THIS. Which is about the sexiest thing I've ever seen in my life, and also the first comic I ever read.

*

So Caroline went to see Equus last night, and my first question to her this morning was, "HOW BIG IS DANIEL RADCLIFFE'S PEEN?" See, I scoured the reviews when they first came out to try and find out this Very Important information, but it was rubbish; they were all, "blah blah, tasteful nudity, not gratuitous, acting very good, blah blah" with not ONE mention of whether DR is hung or no. Like I give a flying fuck about his acting. Whatever British Press, you SUCK. (Apparently it's not that big, sry2say, but it's not like she saw it hard or anything. HA. I MADE YOU THINK ABOUT DANIEL RADCLIFFE'S COCK AGAIN. *wins*)

*

The Friday Night Lights season finale was magnificent, and the perfect way to finish a perfect season of television. If you watched it, and haven't already seen [info]ladycat777's post explaining why the football play in it "Was The Coolest Thing Ever, And No, Really, Not Lame At All" then get over there right now. It is especially useful for people like me, who know zip about American football, and it will totally increase your appreciation of FNL's utter brilliance. Even if you DO know about football, her post will give you chills.

I would like to write a proper episode review because it warrants it, and I'll hopefully get around to doing that when I'm in more of a thinky mood. In the meantime though:

PEENS.

Okay, THESE photos of Tom are making me happy. He's wearing flipflops (HOT GUYS IN FLIPFLOPS ROCK MY WORLD). He's still with Jamie. He's smiling. He has STUBBLE. He's the foxiest thing I've ever seen. And they're from May THIS YEAR.

Also, you might not have seen THESE yet. Thanks to [info]laurab1 for the heads up. He is so perfect I might cry.

In other news, I'm half way through Birthright and I'm in love with it totally and utterly but I won't talk about it until I finish, although I have found two phrases that I plan to use whenever possible:

"That's what's chapping my butt." (Lois) and "For now, let's be content to bask in my genius." (Lex) Aren't they great!

Tell me your favourite quotes! From anything: comics/films/teevee/books/fic.

Three important things happened today:

I met [info]blythely and [info]jayest! Who are the very coolest and I'm looking forward to going out with them again soon and drinking alcohol. Also I met [info]derryderrydown and [info]jamjar, and there were others but I can't remember their LJ names. I got to Ed's diner, and I was late (I'll explain in a second), and [info]jamjar, who is very adorable, gave me a complete history of Robin and how there have been four Robins: Dick, Tim, Jason and Steph. (is that right?) And it was very complicated and I don't remember everything but it was interesting and funny and Batman is very slashy and it made me want to maybe read some Batman comics.

Then we went to Superman Returns! Which I thoroughly enjoyed although maybe not quite as much as I could have.
