TV blather and a POLL!

Did I mention? I looooved Generation Kill. I'm not generally a fan of war entertainment but this show is like nothing I've seen before. What struck me most about it was how the men are portrayed as genuinely enjoying themselves; despite the shoddy conditions under which they live and fight, they want to be there, either because they believe they're doing good, or just because they like shooting guns and killing shit.

It's not just brilliantly written and acted, it's funny in that way The Wire was often funny: no matter how tragic the circumstance, human beings can always be counted on to find a way to laugh about it, and in drama I absolutely love scenes of people clowning around - it makes the drama feel so much more believable, because actually, in real life, people tell jokes, people laugh, and people feel joy. And who woulda thought the guy who played Ziggy on The Wire would be another show's most lovable and hilarious character? Not me that's who!

I finished Lie to Me. DEAR GODS OF TELEVISION PLEASE DON'T LET IT BE CANCELLED LOVE KATE. I need a few procedurals in my life, with arrogant, brilliant protagonists who have almost superhuman powers of observation (please see also: The Mentalist, House and Bones), and this is my current favourite, probably because I've been mainlining it recently, but seriously, it's a cool concept and it shouldn't be over.

I am also rewatching season 1 of Veronica Mars, just because it's been a while and I need my Logan and Veronica fix. Will I ever fall in love with another show the way I fell for VM? I watch and love a lot of TV but I can't imagine loving anything quite this much. My only complaint about season one is that there are episodes without Logan. They're good episodes and all but I get anxious when I don't see Logan. I just watched "An Echolls Family Christmas" which never gets less genius ("Annoy, tiny blonde one, annoy like the wind!"). And then I watched "Silence of the Lamb" and guess who guest stars in it? Aaron Paul from Breaking Bad!
