The future of Smallville

I'm pretty much unspoiled for the rest of the season, except for a few minor spoilers that I just read in this interview with Michael Rosenbaum on KSite.

amandajane5 mentioned the other day about Mike's future plans and how worried she was about Tom staying with the show beyond its (inevitable) 7th season.

What MR says...

So, are you in it for the long haul?
Next year will be my last year. I had a great run. I loved it, but that will be it for me.

Really? Is that how the whole cast is feeling?
No, I think other people have longer contracts. I’m not going to say who, but I know that next year is the last for me. So, it will be very sad when it happens, but all good things must come to an end.

While I'm happy that Mike has made the decision to only do one more year (Lex's journey is practically over anyway) and I think he's right, carrying on the show without him is a big, big mistake. I can't imagine Smallville without Lex. He and Clark are the only two characters I give a shit about, and even though their stories have been told incompetently, they're equally important to me. They're what makes SV special. BOTH of them.

Clark without Lex is like the sun without the moon, Juliet without Romeo, day without night, fish without bicycles, fandom without porn. I think of this possible future and it's bleak and wrong and too sad for me to comprehend. Smallville needs Lex!

Don't get me wrong, I don't want a season 8 at ALL, but a season 8 with the rest of the cast and NO LEX? That will break my heart.

Thoughts?
